Master of Arts International Studies (MAIS) Symposium Part II

The Part II MAIS Symposium was held on March 13, 2019, from 9 am to 11 am, in the Council Room, Zero Level, Central Block. The symposium panel consisted of six students from the 2018-20 Batch of MAIS.
The overall theme of the discussion was Drug Legalisation in US and Latin America - Issues and Challenges. Each speaker spoke for about ten minutes each, making use of brief and to-the-point powerpoint presentations. Among other sub-themes, the topics discussed under the umbrella subject of the Symposium were, the Drug Trade in the Americas and the American lifestyle, with respect to the US, a historical perspective on the War on Drugs, a detailed study of Washington where the recreational usage of marijuana has been legalised and how following the Washington-model would help tackle certain socio-politico extremities such as the practice of racism, to an extend and the crucial role of institutions and the state in this process.

Each address by an individual speaker on the panel, ended with a rather potent session of Q&A from members of the audience, which consisted of the remaining students of the MAIS 2 batch.
